Hi, looking for a bit of advice.

I am looking at adding some content to one of my sites and am wondering on the best way to go. Should I:

  • Add a blog to the site
Or
  • Add a page where I consistently update with articles

My intention is to add content by way of articles that I collect. I am not necessarily looking for people to add comments so I was thinking that if I just add a simple page and named it 'articles' and then update that on a regular basis, is that as good as setting up a blog. I am just having a little bit of difficulty in getting my head around setting up a blog as my site has a number of different products and I assume I would have to set up a different blog for all the different products.

Is there more 'google value' in having a blog and allowing people to leave a comment with a link etc or am I better off adding the article page for every product and consistently udating the content?

Sorry if I haven't been as concise in my questions as I would like, but I am looking for the most efficient way of updating my site with content - to avoid the 'slap'.

Regards,

Steve.

Hey.

All that a blog is, is a web page with an rss feed attached to it.

The rss feed is a pipeline that allows a user to place text, audio or video content in it.
Blogs offer many advantages because every new post on a blog when it is properly formated will permit
a user to target a new keyword phrase.

On a regular web page you have one title per page.
On a blog page you can have a new title for every post.

That is the main advantage of blogs.

Subscribers can subscribe to your blog and they will be alerted any time you post new content.

My recommendation is to go with a blog.

Blogs get indexed a lot faster, allow for comments, send visitors from aggregate services, and as Harald mentioned people can subscribe to your feed and the structure of your site is proper. I personally use Semiologic template because it is customized for seo and has all the plugins you can ever need. It's a worthwhile investment but not a necessary one.

You can also now connect blogs with twitter, friendfeed, facebook among many other social networking sites that give you a marketing advantage.
