Hey guys

Been looking at the best way to start out building campaigns now that we have GG and other tools. Here's how I see it from reading all the posts and watching the tutorials:

1. Entering the broadest keywords into Niche Goggles to compare markets.
2. Once a market is chosen dig deep with hexatrack to gather competitive intelligence for about 2-3 weeks. If somebody is around in the top positions they MIGHT be making good money (or very dumb and losing it). Analyse their ad copy, landing pages and keywords.
3. Enter their information into Google Goggles by putting in their broadest keywords and ad. See how you can improve things by the results you get.
4. Build better site based on your data and this time plug your details into GG and see how it holds up.
5. When all is well I then set about expanding my keywords, setting up ads and launching the campaign.

Bit of an overview I know but this is the way I've been tackling this when starting out my campaigns and so far I'm getting great results as far as quality score is concerned and it seems to be the best way when I just want to test a market to see if its profitable. Would love to know how others are using all the tools we have now.

You got it!

Then once you are running you track everything with Hexatrack. Another thing you can do it survey the market prior to building your site. I love doing that because the survey tells me exactly what the market wants.

Great tip Larry, I have been surveying the market more the last couple of days and the more I found out the better decisions I had made because of it so it certainly helps.

Larry,

What do you mean when you say survey the market? How do you implement this?

Tom & Larry,

Instead of entering a broad term like say "digital cameras" into goggles can you enter more niche terms like say "Canon EOS 40d" and see how your competitors QS is like? Can this also be used when finding competitor analysis in hexatrack?

Let me know what you guys are thinking..

Cheers,

Sean

Hey Sean

Once you've been through all the steps of seeing what others are promoting you could set up a survey to see what your potential prospects want from your niche. For example if you do a google search you'll find lots of free services where you can set up a survey and they supply you with a url where visitors will go to fill it out. You could ask questions like:

What is the main problem that you have with ...
How much money are you willing to spend on...
In the next 6 months, what would you most likely purchase...

etc etc

Then what you could do is either create a free report or use one with resell rights that is related to a certain topic you think people might be interested in. You use that report as the REASON for people filling out your survey.

Create a PPC campaign asking for participants. Just mention that they get a free report in your ad, whatever gets them to the page. You could also ask blog owners if they'll allow a link to the page. So once you've looked at all the data from people filling out the survey you might find for example that people are more interested in iphone accessories than just the iphone product you were originally going to promote.

All of this is just an extra way of gathering market research, of course its not always essential, there are only so many hours in a day Wink
I'm sure Larry has lots of other ideas as to how to go about it, this is just off the top of my head.

With regards to entering terms into goggles: I don't only enter the broad terms its whatever other keywords a competitor is using. Once I've found a campaign I like the look of and analysed their site and ads. I look at what keywords they are bidding on and enter those into GG. Whether it be "cell phone" or "Nokia N95 cell phone". I'll plug'em in and see if these relevant terms are in their site. If they are selling a Nokia N95 and they haven't got these targeted terms in their page and the score is low, I'm sure as hell gonna use'em in mine as I know that its ultra relevant.

Also if I want to look at the market for a longer period, again I'll take those extra keywords that a competitor is using and plug them back into hexatrack. You might get some more ideas on leaving those long tails for a couple of weeks and seeing what people are promoting based on those terms.

Again I'm sure Larry and Amish have some other cool tricks as to the approach somebody could take to all this. Would love for them to chime in.

Hope this helps Sean Smiley
